The Wildcat Card is the official Kansas State University identification card. It bears the holder’s name, WID and account numbers, photo and signature. The Wildcat Card is the identification card to be used while attending or employed by Kansas State University. It must be carried at all times while on campus. It is for the holder’s personal use only. Services covered by this card are not transferable to other individuals. The holder’s Wildcat Card must be presented upon request by any officer or employee of Kansas State University when asked for identification.
The Wildcat Card is valid for students while enrolled at Kansas State University and for current, retired and emeritus employees of the University. The Wildcat Card displays the Wildcat ID (WID) number on the card for use as an identifying number. The WID is a nine-digit number permanently assigned by Kansas State University to uniquely identify each member of the K-State community (including students, faculty, staff and affiliated individuals) throughout his/her association with K-State. It can be distinguished from a social security number by ‘8’ being the first digit.
The Wildcat Card serves not only as general identification but identification for course exams, use of K-State Libraries, access to recreational facilities, access to dining services, security access to residence halls, obtaining medical records and use of Lafene Health Center. Other uses for the Wildcat Card include purchasing functions, use of K-State Student Union services and admission to selected Kansas State University athletic events.
Card Issue Guidelines: The Wildcat Card is issued to students and current, retired or emeritus faculty and staff of Kansas State University. To obtain a Wildcat Card, you will need to demonstrate proof of identity by showing a government issued photo ID such as: state issued driver’s license, state issued ID card, military ID card or passport.
A picture is mandatory in order to receive a Wildcat Card. Hats, sunglasses, bandannas and any other clothing that might obstruct the view of the face may not be worn. Items worn for religious purposes or because of a disability must be approved by ID Center management or staff at the time of photo capture. No picture retakes are allowed unless the picture is unusable due to closed eyes or other unforeseen problems.
New students will be charged $18 for the Wildcat Card and $20 for a replacement. Persons attending conferences and other campus visitors are not issued a Wildcat Card. The K-State ID Center may issue special use cards for conferences utilizing the K-State campus and/or K-State Student Union facilities.
Safeguard of Wildcat Cards: Protect your card from damage caused by rubbing or scratching. Do not punch holes in the card. Keep the magnetic strip unobstructed and use card only for its intended functions. Protect card from access by others at all times. Defective or damaged cards will be replaced at the K-State ID Center in the K-State Student Union. (Defective and/or damaged cards are determined by the K-State ID Center).
Lost/Stolen Wildcat Cards: Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately to the K-State ID Center, located on the first floor of the K-State Student Union. ID Center hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The K-State ID Center phone number is 785-532-6399. After hours and weekends call the 24-hr. message line at above number.
Cards which have been replaced due to loss or theft are de-activated and cannot be re-activated. The replacement card may access balances remaining on a Cat Cash account. Important: Financial balances on Smart Chip are non-refundable if card is lost or stolen.
A $20 non-refundable replacement fee does apply for replacement cards issued.
Misplaced/Forgotten Cards: Card holders are responsible for the use of their Wildcat Cards. All transactions performed prior to report of loss/theft are the responsibility of cardholder. All transactions which occur when a card is lost/stolen are subject to verification by the K-State ID Center. Individual departments and agencies of K-State may institute specific policies for misplaced/forgotten cards.
Misuse: Those persons misusing the Wildcat Card by loaning (considered theft of services), falsifying, altering or using a card without authorization are subject to disciplinary action and/or prosecution and will be assessed a misuse fee. A $20 misuse fee will be assessed to any cardholder whose card has been confiscated due to misuse. Upon payment of the misuse fee, the Wildcat Card will be returned to the card holder.
Student Photo Release Procedure: Requests for copies of student photos contained in the database of the K-State ID Center will be handled as follows:
Students requesting a copy of their own photo, and K-State school officials with a legitimate educational interest in the photos of students (such as for class course purposes), may obtain copies of the photo(s) by submitting a copy of their class roster or by filling out an ID Center Request for Copy form (available at the K-State ID Center). Photos are in jpeg format and can be obtained via disk, e-mail or web download. If requested on a disk, the media is to be supplied by the requesting party.
The ID Center will provide the photos at no charge. The use and compilation of the photos is the responsibility of the party receiving the photos. The ID Center will provide a custom photo layout to K-State school officials for a cost of $1.00 per photo.
