Summary of Position: Responsible for assisting with the management and facilitation of daily operations of the Union’s Chick-fil-A (CFA) quick service restaurant as well as coordination of Union facility event catering in support of the Union’s mission and vision. This position is responsible for compliance with company standards in all areas of operations, including production, preparation, customer relations, and inventory management.

Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 9:30 am to 6 pm, schedule may vary according to business needs
Pay Range: $18.07/hour

Key Functions:
Chick-fil-A - Related
70%: Assist manager/retail services to ensure all Chick-fil-A (CFA) operations comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) regulations, and CFA corporate policies and procedures. Provide leadership to the unit, in coordination with manager/retail services. By direction, or in the absence of the manager/retail services, execute unit responsibilities. Monitor a clean and safe work environment in accordance with established health and safety standards. Monitor food quality. Ensure all food service standards and audits are met. Follow up on inspection findings and implement necessary changes. Identify and resolve potential safety hazards. Take advantage of slow shift days by performing extra weekly/monthly cleaning list duties and/or organizing back-of-house products/inventory.
Ensure employees provide customers with efficient, friendly, superior service. Monitor and maintain guest satisfaction throughout unit and resolve customer complaints. Maintain high-quality, consistent product standards.
Assist with the management of financial objectives by reviewing regular forecasts, limiting labor costs, growing sales, and controlling inventory and cost of goods within budget margins. Assist with cash management functions to include POS systems.
Catering - Specific
15%: Assist with soliciting and coordinating catering business and act as representative/liaison to catering customers. Attend pre-event planning meetings for catered events to ensure a successful event for the customer. Assist with prepping for centered events as well as supervising the events; addressing any catering-related concerns and issues. Maintain cleanliness and organization of catering kitchens. Inspect catering kitchens post-event and report findings to supervisor. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety standards and liquor laws in Union-operated retail venues and catered events; inform supervisor of any deficiencies. Assist with product production and placement for catered events (e.g. coffee, beverages, et al.).
Departmental Operations
15%: Stay knowledgeable on all CFA procedures. Coordinate with the manager/retail services to train team members on taking money, counting change, and proper use of credit card machines in line with industry standards. Assist in hiring, evaluating, and holding accountable, the work of retail services employees. Hold team accountable for completing all operations systems daily. Lead by example when performing duties. Serve as a member of internal and external committees. Assist with the development of employee work schedules. Perform other duties as assigned and instructed.
Qualification Requirements:
Education - Minimum
• High school diploma (or equivalent) and one and a half or more years of demonstrated experience; or
• Associate’s degree from an accredited institution and one or more years of demonstrated experience.
• Obtain ServSafe certification within first 6 months of hire.
Education – Preferred
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution and one or more years of demonstrated experience.
- Current ServSafe certification.
Experience - Minimum Demonstrated
• Progressive food service industry experience;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and web-based communications (ie. Zoom and/or Teams);
• Fiscal management experience;
• Ability to work cross-functionally and with a wide variety of projects and competing deadlines;
• Customer-centric service;
• Participate and pass Chick-fil-A licensee manager training within first year of hire.
Experience – Preferred Demonstrated
• Progressive food service management experience, to include scheduling and ordering product.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with federal and state food handling and storage laws and regulations.
• General accounting knowledge and experience.
• Six months or more of demonstrated work experience in a university and/or student union environment.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to move throughout CFA unit. Full range of physical motion (ie. bend, stoop, reach, grasp) to operate and manipulate unit equipment and inventory. Sight and ability to read printed material, operate POS system, and count money with or without vision aids. Verbal and written communication to present, convey and exchange information and ideas accurately and quickly. Physical agility to lift, carry, and/or pull up to 30 pounds. Hearing for average or normal conversations and to receive information. Ability to safely operate and clean slicers, fryers, grill. The scope of the job requires attendance at evening and/or Saturday activities. Become ServSafe certified within six months of hire. Within one year of hire must successfully pass Chick-fil-A licensee manager training.
