Honoring William "Bill" Muir III

 

Bill MuirThe K-State Student Union is honored to announce the receipt of a planned gift by Assistant Vice President Emeritus William “Bill” Muir III.

Muir was an unwavering supporter of the K-State Student Union for more than 20 years - volunteering his time, resources and expertise.

He graduated from Kansas State University in 1977 with a degree in business administration and served as the Union Governing Board (UGB) faculty representative from 1997 to 2008. After retiring in 2011 as K-State’s Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Muir was given the title of Assistant Vice President Emeritus. 

He accepted the invitation to return to UGB as a non-voting member in 2016 to offer historical context to the group. In addition to his role on UGB, Muir is involved in the review committee for the Stanley L. Winter Alpha Tau Omega Leadership Scholarship. He has been heavily involved in his fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega holding both national and chapter offices. 

In 2021, Muir was the recipient of the Vision Award, the Union’s highest honor. The award identifies and extends the Union’s sincere appreciation to the individuals throughout its history whose efforts, commitment, influence and dreams energized the growth and service of the union.

In recognition of his generosity, dedication to K-State and support for students, the Union has renamed room 224 to the William “Bill” Muir Room. Campus partners, friends and guests gathered on Wednesday, Apr. 26, 2023 to publicly unveil the new space. The room is available for reservations. 

The Union’s mission is to serve all, especially students, with facilities that provide services, programs, leadership experiences and educational opportunities which foster a sense of wellbeing and belonging in an inclusive community.
