Heiman Selected as the Director of Student Programs and Involvement
Sara Heiman has been selected as the director of student programs and involvement for the newly merged Union Program Council (UPC) and CSI offices.
Reporting through the K-State Student Union, UPC joined forces with CSI to continue to provide exceptional programming and engagement activities for the Kansas State University community. “An important role of the Union is to provide opportunities for students to connect with one another and find a sense of campus community. Bringing these offices under one organizational umbrella helps ensure the Union offers a wide range of student involvement experiences. I’m excited about the potential this move has in building campus community and providing an even more vibrant K-State experience,” stated Dr. Thomas Lane, vice president for student life.
Heiman graduated from K-State in 2008 with a degree in secondary education physics. She completed her master’s degree in counselor education – student affairs in higher education at Mississippi State University in 2011. Previously, Heiman served as a housing coordinator at Oklahoma State University before returning to K-State to work in the Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering in 2014, where she coordinated the GROW, EXCITE, and SUCCEED programs, and supported the development of the KAWSE Ambassadors student organization. “I look forward to this next level of collaboration between UPC and CSI, and the relationships, opportunities and resources this will provide to students and the greater campus community,” said Heiman.
Heiman began working in the Center for Student Involvement in 2019 as the assistant director for leadership. Within CSI, Heiman’s work included the development of the student organization Leadership Summit, the launch of the Cat Trax student engagement program and service as advisor to the Student Governing Association.
