Union selects Brent Freeman as new executive director
The K-State Student Union has selected Brent Freeman as the new executive director. Freeman will assume all position duties July 29, 2024
Freeman graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Washington State University in 2004. He continued his education by completing master’s degrees in educational administration in 2017 from University of Nebraska and business administration in 2021 from Pittsburg State University. Freeman began his professional journey as the coordinator of membership services and special events at Washington State University.
His career in higher education includes experience in campus recreational services and student unions at four universities. Most recently, Freeman served as the director of the Nebraska Unions, Events, and Services which included areas of responsibility departmental assessment initiatives, project management, technology services, strategic planning, as well as annual capital renewal and budget planning. He also served as the student affairs representative on the UNL policy advisory board.
A member of the professional organization the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), Freeman has been an active volunteer in various roles for more than ten years and received national recognition as the recipient of the 2021 ACUI Excellence in Volunteer Service award.
"Brent's extensive experience and proven leadership skills make him an exceptional addition to the K-State Student Union team. His vision and dedication will undoubtedly drive our Union to new heights, and we are excited to welcome him aboard. I appreciate the diligent efforts of the search committee in selecting the next executive of the Union,” stated Derek Jackson, associate vice president of community building and director of housing and dining services.
Freeman will become part of Kansas State University and the Manhattan community with his partner Carly Morse. "I’m incredibly excited to join the K-State community. It is truly an honor to be selected to serve in this role, and I look forward to working with the amazing Union team and collaborating across campus to build upon the rich history and tradition of the K-State Student Union. I’m humbled to have the opportunity to play a role in providing spaces, programs and services that are such key components to enhancing the K-State student experience. I can’t wait to get to campus and get started,” Freeman shared.
