Notary Services
Notary Services now available at the K-State Student Union.
The Union Director's Office (Union 214) is officially authorized to provide public notary services, conveniently located on the Union's second floor. The service must be conducted in the Union.

Faculty/Staff/Alumni: $5
General Public: $10
Service Hours
Monday–Friday, including federal holidays, 9 a.m. – noon and 2 – 4 p.m.
Service is not available on federal holidays or when the university is closed.

Notarization must be completed at the Student Union
Kansas Notaries Public are certified by the Secretary of State and serve to prevent fraud and forgery. They act as unbiased witnesses to the identity of signers.
- Acknowledgements – Signer declares they signed the document voluntarily.
- Witnessing – Signer signs in the presence of the Notary.
- Verification – Notary administers an oath before the signer signs.
- Administering an Oath/Affirmation –
- Oath: “You do solemnly swear… So help you God.”
- Affirmation: “You do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare and affirm… under the pains and penalties of perjury.”
- Certifying Copies – A Notary certifies a copy is true and correct only if they make the copy from the original.
- Noting a Protest – Certifies dishonor of a financial instrument (e.g., non-payment).
(Please note that this is not a comprehensive list, and the Notary reserves the right to refuse any request:
- Requests without a valid ID
- (Minors may be notarized if they have a valid ID and understand the document)
- Electronic notarizations – Only authorized Notaries may perform these.
- Loan/Escrow documents – Should be handled by the escrow company.
- Last Wills and Testaments – Must be notarized by an attorney.
- I-9 Forms – Verification is not a notarial act; must be done by an authorized company representative.
- Publicly recorded documents – Birth/death certificates, court documents, etc., must be certified by the issuing public office.

FAQs
- Review your document carefully and ensure you understand its contents.
- Fill in all blanks except for signature and date fields if they must be witnessed by the Notary.
- Do not sign or date the document until in the presence of the Notary (if witnessing is required).
- Ensure your document includes notarial wording (a notarial block or certificate), or that you know what type of notarization is required.
- The Notary cannot determine the type of notarization needed or provide legal advice. If unsure, contact the document drafter.
- A government-issued photo ID with a signature, current or issued within the last five years.
- (Note: K-State Wildcat IDs are not valid for notarization,)
- The document, completed except for the signature(s) and date. Knowledge of the type of notarization required.
